Mark B. McOmber, LCSW

Mark B. McOmber, LCSW (“Sr”)

Mark is a native of Utah. He served a church mission to Frankfurt Germany, then completed bachelors, Master of Social Work, and Master of Marriage and Family Therapy at Brigham Young University. Upon graduation he entered the US Air Force and took a commission as a medical officer doing individual and family therapy and advising the Base Commander on matters of personnel. After 5 years of work for the Air Force, Mark moved to Clovis, CA in 1989 and opened private practice in counseling, thus founding North Star Counseling.

Mark’s theoretical approach to therapy comes from the work of Alfred Adler. This approach focuses on humans with a psychosocial (rather than psychosexual) emphasis and established early concepts later adopted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Mark teaches CBT and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to several interns, whom he supervises in their progress towards licensure. Mark’s specialty has been couples counseling for the last 10 years. He also enjoys working with first responders and church missionaries. Mark is planning to take an 18 month break to serve as a clinician-missionary beginning in 2018.

Mark has worked in the field of Chemical Dependency and Codependency treatment in the Residential, Outpatient and Intensive Outpatient settings. He is currently employed as the Regional Clinical Director for Aegis Treatment Centers in Fresno. He serves as a volunteer missionary for his church. He loves being with his wife, 4 children and 12 grandchildren.
